Carlos Tevez set to lose £10 million
Back in November 2011, Carlos Tevez went AWOL from Manchester City for over a month resulting in the football club taking disciplinary action; charging the Argentine striker with gross misconduct. The charges meant a four-week fine (this was then forcibly reduced by the PFA to two weeks), but they gave Tevez the opportunity to appeal, which he did.
Now it has come to light that Tevez’s appeal has been rejected and, in addition to the original two week fine, they are fining him another 6-weeks wages and docking him two months pay for his continuous refusals to return from Argentina. The total cost of these fines totals £3.3 million.
To add further salt to the wound for Tevez, City have also stated they intend to withhold around £6 million worth of loyalty payments, and the club is refusing to allow the Argentine to transfer to another club for less than his estimated market value of €30 million plus.
Redknapp accused of tax evasion
This is looking like a bad week for Harry Redknapp. First of all, the Tottenham manager was forced to witness a last-minute defeat of his team by Manchester City. This outcome has a small amount of controversy behind it as the final goal was scored by Mario Belotelli in an injury time penalty, whom many are saying should have been sent off after what looked like a deliberate stamp on Scott Parker’s head (see video below).
Putting aside his team’s defeat, Rednknapp is also facing some legal problems too. He has been taken to court over allegations that he avoided paying tax on certain payments during his time in charge of Portsmouth.
City appeal Kompany’s red card from derby FA Cup match
In what ended being a pretty nail-biting finish for both sides, there were plenty of tough decisions referee Chris Foy had to make in the Manchester derby FA Cup clash on Sunday. Fans from both sides will argue that there should have been at least one extra penalty each following some lenience (or possibly ignorance?) from Foy. However, there is one decision in particular that is sure to have irked many of the blues’ fans: the sending off of Vincent Kompany after just 12 minutes of play.
Footage of the tackle in question against Nani does appear to show Kompany successfully winning the ball before catching the United winger. A decision is expected from the FA before Manchester City’s match against Liverpool this week.
